Where basket filters are used
A basket element stops coarse debris such as weld spatter, chips, sand and seal fragments, protecting pumps, heat exchangers, nozzles and meters. The basket is removed, cleaned and refitted, so running costs stay low. Duplex basket housings keep the line running while one basket is cleaned.

It depends on the dirt load; clean it when the differential pressure across the housing rises.
How is the mesh opening chosen?
By the largest particle the protected equipment can tolerate. For finer filtration, add a cartridge or bag filter downstream.
